LCWS Summer 2011 Residential Program The Summer Residential Internship Program, sponsored by the Lutheran College Washington Semester, links together your colleges’ summer internship opportunities with housing in its own Washington Semester residential facility. Your first step is to check with the internship or summer session director on your campus. If you are not sure who on campus can help you to make the necessary academic arrangements, then ask your faculty representative for guidance. You should consult with your regular academic adviser on the internship in which you are interested and meet all the deadlines for securing that internship. Most schools require a learning agreement/contract signed by the student and the summer session or internship director. Be sure to register for the appropriate number of credit hours you are seeking and pay applicable fees and tuition. Dates and Costs:
Application deadline is May 1st.
12-Week Program: May 19 - August 12 $2,500 9-Week Program: June 2 - August 5 $2,200 6-Week Program: June 2 - July 15 $1,600
Deposit: $300 Extra Week: $250 (Only for attendees of the 12-Week Program)
The deposit is required to reserve your housing. It is refundable at the end of the summer if your condo is left in an acceptable condition and all payments for housing have been received. The deposit is non-refundable if a student does not attend the Summer Residential Internship Program.
An extra week is available to those attending the 12-Week program if space is available. Individuals staying a 13th week may be asked to move to a different condo to accommodate the extension. Students who select and pay for the additional week, but whose circumstances change, will be refunded the cost of the additional week.
Early arrival/late departure: The 12-Week Program may begin as early as May 12 and end August 5 or students may begin a week later for a 12-Week Program beginning May 26 and ending August 19. Earlier arrivals or later stays for students not enrolled in the full 12 week program are not permitted.
Single Room Supplement (space available basis) If a student wishes to secure his or her own bedroom in a two-bedroom condo, there is a $1000 supplemental fee.
Academic Credit Students wishing to receive academic credit for their summer internship experience should make arrangements through their college or university. Please indicate on your summer application if you are earning academic credit for your internship.
Internships for Experience The Summer Residential Internship Program may also be taken for experience only. It is not required to take an internship for academic credit in order to enroll in the Summer Residential Internship Program. Please indicate on your summer application if you are doing your internship for experience only.
Financial Aid Please be advised that financial aid may be limited or not available during the summer. Students should check as early as possible to see if any financial aid is available from their member institutions.
The Condos Students live in a two bedroom/two bath condo usually housing four students. The condos are located on the penthouse level with balconies overlooking the Potomac River and the Iwo Jima Monument. The condos have everything that you need—complete furnishings, appliances, a washer/dryer combination, kitchen accessories, and a computer with printer, high speed internet and cable television. A supermarket, numerous restaurants, and shops are within walking distance of your condo. All costs of housing are included: rent, utilities, cable, high speed internet, building registration fee, and use of the swimming pool and Entertainment Center (workout facility).
Housing applications are available by clicking on the "Summer Application" button above, or through your faculty representative for the Lutheran College Washington Semester. Check our web page for the name of your campus director and for more information and location of the condos in which you will be living at River Place in Rosslyn, Virginia. Housing for the Summer Residential Internship Program is accepted on a first-come, first served basis. Individuals should make every effort to send their applications by May 1, as housing may not be available after that date. The signed housing application should be attached to a copy of the student’s internship approval form and signed by either the director of summer sessions, the internship director or the college’s campus director to the LCWS, according to the policy adopted by the school. Send the signed housing form, copy of the signed internship approval form, and check (made payable to LCWC) to LCWC, 1025 Arlington Boulevard, Arlington, Virginia 22209.
