Fall & Spring Semesters

There are few better ways to prepare for your future than by spending a semester living, studying, and interning in Washington, D.C.

The Lutheran College Washington Semester (LCWS) brings students together from across the country, and around the world, for experiential learning opportunities in Washington, D.C.  Fall and spring semester students intern four full days per week for fourteen weeks.  Through the internship, students strengthen their skills, deepen their understanding of the professional world, and gain unparalleled experience that will set them apart when seeking full-time employment after graduation.  Semester students also pursue two academic courses in a variety of subject areas to augment their professional endeavors.  The coursework and the internship complement one another, enabling students to gain valuable insight and experience in their chosen field of study.  Upon successful completion of the semester, students earn a full semester of academic credit from their college or university.

To apply for the fall and spring semester program, students must be a junior or senior in good academic standing (second semester sophomores may be eligible).  Visit our Fall & Spring Semesters page for more information on the LCWS semester experience; application requirements; and costs.  Semester applications are accepted on a rolling basis until space is filled.  However, to meet most internship application deadlines, we recommend the following timelines:

Fall Semesters

Early Action Submission Date (Recommended): April 1

Application Deadline: June 1

Spring Semesters

Early Action Submission Date (Recommended): August 1

Application Deadline: October 15

Summers

If a traditional fall or spring semester experience will not fit into your undergraduate plan of study, our Summer Residential Program is a great alternative!  The Summer Residential Program is available for all students and alumni of LCWS member institutions.  The Program is purely residential; LCWS does not offer coursework or academic programming during the summer.  Residents may choose between a 9-week or 12-week summer housing option.  The cost for the summer varies depending upon length of stay.

Visit our Summer Residential Program page for a breakdown of current costs and the summer application form.  Please complete the application form and submit it, along with your application deposit, to LCWS by email, mail, or fax.  Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until space is filled.  The application deadline for the Summer Program is May 1.
