As a program with students from different institutions, the Lutheran College Washington Semester (LCWS) represents and benefits from a wide spectrum of identities and viewpoints. LCWS aims to prepare students for life after college and to encourage students to become engaged citizens of their community, nation, and world. As part of this mission, and because LCWS is perfectly situated to allow students to closely study the articulation of arguments, LCWS strongly endorses freedom of expression. As a community in which individuals from diverse backgrounds and diverse perspectives reside, LCWS is committed to maintaining a climate that emphasizes the importance of communication between individuals with different perspectives, opinions, and identities. The success of an inclusive learning environment relies on the participation, support, and understanding of all students. LCWS encourages students to speak up and share their views, while knowing that they are doing so in a learning environment in which everyone is expected to engage respectfully and with regard to the dignity of others.
