Purpose

The Alumni Board seeks to strengthen and advance the LCWS program through engagement between and among students, alumni, staff, and supporters.

Board Composition

The Alumni Board will have at least 8 and no more than 12 members, half in the DMV and half in different regions of the country. The Board will start with an executive committee (President, Vice-President, and Secretary) who, alongside the LCWS staff, will seat the first Board. Once constituted, the Board will determine its rules.

Selection

Alumni Board members are selected based on their commitment to LCWS, personal and/or vocational achievement, and ability to advance the purposes of the Board. Other desired qualifications include demonstrated leadership, connection to their alma mater, and ability to make unique contributions to Board priorities. Alumni do not have to live in the greater DC area to apply. We seek to have representation from different regions of the country, especially those areas close to our member colleges and universities.

Eligibility

Graduates of one of our member colleges or universities who participated the Lutheran College Washington Semester program. Or individuals who have demonstrated their dedication to LCWS through consistent service to the semester program.  Current faculty and staff, regardless of position or role, are not eligible.

Member Expectations and Responsibilities

  • Board members serve 3-year terms that begin on June 1 and end on May 31.

  • Members are expected to attend quarterly meetings, in person or virtually, and contribute to the work of the Board.

  • Participate actively in the work of the Board dedicated to either recruitment, fundraising, semester programming, internships, or special/strategic initiatives.

  • Ensure that the Alumni Board reaches 100% participation level by making a personally meaningful financial contribution to LCWS each year.

  • Display professional courtesy and responsiveness regarding communications from LCWS staff, Alumni Board members, and others engaged in the work of advancing LCWS’ interests.
